EDUCATION: ETIQUETTE

The Ozark Angler suggests the following "rules of etiquette" to observe when fly fishing, especially when fishing among other anglers.

  1. A piece of water belongs to the person who fishes there first - don't intrude.

  2. If an angler is "resting the hole" do not jump in without first asking permission.

  3. Always back away or yield to an angler with a fish hooked up.

  4. Observe all property rights and stay below all high water marks.

  5. Never enter the stream in front of another fisherman.

  6. Never litter and always leave the area cleaner than you found it.

  7. Never use studded wading shoes because they damage the river. The aquatic insect life is very delicate so watch where you step when wading.

  8. Common sense always rules, so treat other fishermen with the same respect that you feel you are entitled.
