ORIVS FLY FISHING SCHOOL
May 30, 31, June 1, 2003 - Openings Available
Under the watchful eyes of our Orvis Endorsed staff, you will receive the finest instruction available. This school will cover all the essentials from casting to conservation to etiquette. The Fly Fishing School uses a hands on approach that covers a variety of important topics.
- Fly Casting: learn forward cast, roll cast, side cast, false cast and shooting line.
- Fly Fishing Equipment: an overview of today's fly tackle and related accessories.
- Essential Fishing Knots: learn the knots for tying on fly to rigging up a fly rod outfit.
- Basic Entomology: the basic biology of what trout eat and how to identify them.
- Fishing Strategies: understand the methods of fly presentation and techniques for catching and releasing trout.
The weekend school will integrate what is presented in the classroom with the practical application on the water. The school begins Friday evening with a social hour check-in. Saturday morning after breakfast, things get started with lectures on knot tying, reading water and fly fishing equipment. The lectures are mixed in with casting instruction conducted on the pond throughout the day.
After a terrific breakfast on Sunday morning, you will have a lecture and one last trip to the casting pond for a final tune up before lunch. After lunch, the remainder of the day is spent in the water with instructors learning fishing techniques, wading safety and fly presentation to the resident trout of the Little Red River.
The Abbe House Inn, located in Heber Springs Arkansas, will be the host for the school. The 12,000 square feet Inn offers 11 guest rooms with a private bath with whirlpool tub and tile floors, and queen sleigh beds.
The Abbe House serves a full "Southern" family style breakfast in the dinning room. Dinner may also be arranged for special occasions. The Inn sits on 12 acres adjacent to the 6th tee of an 18 hole championship golf course and across the road from the Little Red River, which is the location of the on water portion of the school.
The Fly Fishing School includes: accommodations, meals, comprehensive instruction, use of Orvis equipment, all flies, and copy of the Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing. Wading gear, preferably chest waders, are required for the weekend school. A pair of polarized sunglasses and a hat are always good items to have along for your protection.
The location is Heber Springs, Arkansas. The cost is $450 per person. A deposit of $200 is required to reserve your space. The deposit is fully refundable, provided written notice is received 60 days prior to the school date or if inside the 60 day time period, the space is filled.
