Bauer Large Arbor Reels
Large Arbor Reel Performance Advantages
Bauer believes the only acceptable designed for a direct drive real is one with a large Arbor tool. The Bauer large Arbor real is larger in diameter than a conventional real of comparable line capacity ( i.e.: to regain line capacity) , which in enhances all the advantages of the of the large Arbor design. The Bauer large Arbor real offers several advantages over a conventional spooled reel due to some basic mechanical principles.
The conventionally spooled reel has a dramatic to 300 % to 400% drag and pressure increase when you get deep into your backing. This is due to the fact that the advantage the fish has over the reel drag resistance is the distance from the point were the line is coming off the spool to the center of the spindle (cities the lever arm flanks).
So with a conventionally spooled reel this distance is being reduced rapidly as you get deep into your backing, which greatly increases the pressure required to take line off the spool, effectively increasing your drag pressure as much as 400 percent. This is not a good situation when you also have an increasing amount line in water putting even more pressure on to your tippet. The shallow depth of the Bauer large Arbor spool keeps in this change to a minimum since the distance to the center of the spindle changes very little from full to empty spool.
Quick Line Retrieval
When you need your true a lot of on quickly especially one of fish runs back at you, the power large Arbor real retrieves to three times more line per revolution of the crank than a conventional reel. This is due to the larger diameter spool and Arbor, which went empty, can be as much as 3.5 times larger than a conventional reel.
Improved Line Handling
