FISHING DESTINATIONS:
SMITH RIVER WILDERNESS,
MONTANA, USA
The Smith River near Helena, Montana, offers 60 miles of great fishing through some of Montana's most scenic wilderness. The lack of public access points on the river, plus the restricted number of launches the state of Montana allows each day from those access points, guarantees a true wilderness experience.
In the past, The Ozark Angler has provided guiding services on The Smith River working jointly with Mike Geary of Lewis and Clark Expeditions. A typical week includes float fishing, wade fishing and breath taking scenery. Lewis and Clark Expeditions is licensed and certified by the Montana Board of Outfitters to conduct wilderness trips on the Smith River. As a result, Mike has made it possible for visitors to not only book trips through The Ozark Angler, but for The Ozark Angler to provide the guiding services as well.
Fishing the Smith will expose you to miles of riffles, deep pools, and deep runs below 1,000 foot high limestone cliffs. The insects range from the smallest mayfly to the giant stonefly During the week of June 10th we should find the hatches of giant stoneflies and golden stoneflies in full swing. Watching a large brown trout come up and smash a #2 Sofa Pillow will test even the most experienced angler's nerves and skills.
Floating through the Lewis And Clark National Forest on The Smith River offers more than great fishing and spectacular landscapes. It invites you to absorb the stillness of the land and listen to the music of the living water. This trip is a chance to wake up your soul and return to nature.
Come and join the fun.
